Generate compact URL-friendly IDs.
The NanoID Generator is a developer utility that produces compact, cryptographically secure unique IDs using the popular NanoID specification. Compared to traditional UUID v4 (36 characters), NanoID uses a larger 64-character URL-safe alphabet (A-Za-z0-9_-) to achieve identical or superior collision resistance in a much more compact string (default 21 characters). Powered by the browser's native Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues), it guarantees cryptographically strong randomness without network dependencies.
NanoID is 40% smaller than UUID v4 (21 vs 36 characters) while offering comparable collision resistance, utilizing a 64-symbol URL-safe alphabet rather than 16 hexadecimal digits.
With default settings (21 characters, 64-symbol alphabet), generating 1,000 IDs per second would take approximately 4,000 years to reach a 1% probability of a single collision.
Yes. NanoIDs are widely used as database keys, short link slugs, and public resource identifiers in MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
Never. All random bytes are pulled directly from your local hardware entropy pool via client-side JavaScript without server logging.
